Numerous growth models and depth psychologies acknowledge that in order to mature and evolve as human beings it is imperative to work towards awareness, acceptance, and integration of every aspect of self. That which lives in the shadow becomes a breeding ground for neuroses, illusions, dysfunctions, and illness. Furthermore, the greater we suppress or ignore a part of self, the likelier it is for the part to splinter off, creating a fragmented self. Discussing sex and sexuality has remained a longstanding taboo in many parts of the world, and without shedding appropriate light on this topic we risk perpetuating the toxic legacies that shape both the collective and individual relationship to sexuality. Human sexuality is fundamental to life, it is a universal part of our humanity; yet there are few tools that incorporate or even acknowledge sexuality as an aspect of our psycho-spiritual development. At its core, the enneagram is a sacred tool used to cultivate wholeness and union; as such, it is imperative that we within the enneagram community address sexuality as part of our psycho-spiritual development.
